Are you frustrated by your adult hormonal acne? I totally know how you feel. During my teen years, I was lucky because I didn’t have pimples like most of my friends. Unfortunately, that euphoria ended a couple of years ago, when acne started to show up on my face. Since then, I’ve tried many cosmetic treatments to fight my acne. None of them worked, so I shifted my focus towards natural remedies. Below is a list of my favorite natural solutions for hormonal acne.
Healthy Eating Habits
Pay attention to what you eat. Refined carbs, dairy products, and fatty foods can make your acne worse. They don’t necessarily produce pimples, but if you already suffer from acne, poor nutrition can delay healing. Added sugars are especially troubling because they can cause blood sugar spikes which perpetuate hormonal imbalance in the body. Try to follow a low-glycemic diet and consider adding some superfoods to your diet for an extra nutritional boost.
Tea Tree Oil
This natural remedy treats hormonal acne without using expensive cosmetics. Tea tree oil doesn’t irritate your skin, and it works well in cases of mild or moderate acne outbreaks. Tea tree oil has antiseptic properties. It kills bacteria and reduces inflammation. You can purchase products that contain tea tree oil like soaps and skin washes, or you can use it in its natural state as a topical solution.
Decreased Stress Level
Stress is a major factor when it comes to hormonal acne and other skin conditions. During stressful periods, your body produces high amounts of cortisol (aka the stress hormone) which can disrupt your hormonal balance and lead to acne flare ups. Find healthy ways to relax and unwind. My favorite ways to relax are yoga and meditation.
Abnormally high free testosterone is the cause of PCOS related hormonal acne. But Omega-3 supplementation has been shown to improve free testosterone levels in women with PCOS. Along with taking a supplement, you can get Omega-3 fatty acids by eating salmon, nuts, and a number of other foods.
Hormonal acne outbreaks can be really annoying and make you feel less confident. Fortunately, there are ways to solve this issue. You must be patient because natural solutions don’t work miracles. Eventually, with perseverance and a healthier lifestyle, you will see improvements in your complexion.
